2 Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies, suspect injured after robbery arrest

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- A man and woman are in custody after an armed robbery and police chase that ended with two Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies being hit by the suspects' vehicle.

Authorities say 30-year-old Jovanny Pena is in stable condition after deputies fired at him as he drove his Jeep Liberty toward them on Wednesday evening. His 30-year-old accomplice Bryna McLaughlin was also taken to the hospital after complaining of an unrelated medical issue. Both were arrested.

According to deputies, the pair robbed a Radio Shack, threatening a customer, store clerk and the manager and general manager. They took about 90 cell phones and some $56,000. A 911 call alerted deputies, who spotted the vehicle.

Deputies pursued the car along Interstate 75. At some point, Pena struck two deputies with the Jeep.
