NBA Fans follow Heat, Thunder on social media

The Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder square off in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night and social media is playing a big part of the pregame hype.

The Heat and Thunder may be going for the title on the court, but they have already been top contenders on the web, leading the league on the NBA's social media chart . The teams earned the number one and two spots on the social media leader board based on audience engagement and online presence.

There are a number of ways to get involved in the game online. One way to participate in the NBA finals is to check out a new social networking site called Heckler Sports . The site, which also has an iPhone app, is described by its executives as Twitter meets Facebook meets ESPN. Fans can also follow the NBA on Twitter for the games.

And on June 20, the NBA will embrace social media even more when it holds the first ever NBA Social Media Awards , giving fans a chance to interact with players and vote on the season's best moments.
