NASA scientists recorded a powerful explosion on the moon recently.
A meteoroid struck the lunar surface at speeds of 56-thousand-miles-an-hour on March 17th.
The impact was so powerful ....the flash of bright light from the blast could be seen on earth with the naked eye.
NASA just released the info on the collision Friday.
The space agency's astronomers have been monitoring the moon for the past eight years. They're looking for explosions caused by meteoroids.
It's part of a program designed to find and monitor space debris that could hit earth.
NASA says it sees hundreds of detectable lunar meteoroid impacts a year.
