The Instagram app has a new algorithm that aims to make the "Explore" tab more personalized to each user.
If you open the Instagram app and click the compass-shaped icon at the bottom of the screen, the app opens a section called "Explore." This section used to be devoted to public images that were most popular to all users of the app.
A new algorithm has re-configured what users will see. Now, it attempts to zero in on a user's personal preference to pull public images that might be suited to a person's taste.
Our team in the WPTV newsroom tried the new Explore section. While one user saw photos of cats, beach scenes and artwork, another user saw images of brunch foods, travel destinations and fashion.
