Facebook Timeline format no longer an option, all profiles will switch over in coming weeks

In September, Facebook introduced "Timeline", a profile format option that chronicles users' lives with posts, pictures and links shared through the lifespan of your Facebook membership.

But Tuesday, the social media heavy weight announced that Timeline is no longer an option. All profiles will switch over to the format in the coming weeks, making information shared in the past easily accessible by the month and year--from birth.

Many of Facebook's 800 million users had voluntarily switched over to the format in December when it officially became available to users. Facebook blogged that those who have been reluctant to switch over to the media-rich will get a not-so-gentle nudge to opt-in, but they will have time to customize it before the profile becomes public.

"Over the next few weeks, everyone will get timeline," the Facebook blog said.

"When you get timeline, you'll have 7 days to preview what's there now. This gives you a chance to add or hide whatever you want before anyone else sees it."
