Election season apps : Download these apps to keep up with the big races

If you're looking to get involved and help your candidate, or, still need some information before heading to the ballot box next month, here are some smartphone election apps to check out.

The Obama for America app is all about organizing and campaigning and is geared for volunteers who want to canvas their neighborhood.

The Romney-Ryan Campaign app is also aimed at getting people involved and sharing their enthusiasm. the app delivers the latest campaign news and updates and shows the candidate's position on the major issues.

The hottest story in this year's campaign are the ever-changing polls and the Polltracker app from the folks at Talking Point Media makes sense of them all, not just the Presidential race is measured here, so are Congressional contests. You can mark your favorite races and the app will even send you polling updates. free for the iPhone.

The New York times has a handy app for iPhone and Android devices. It has lots of news, the latest poll results, candidate pages and state updates. There are videos and, come the big night, live results. The app is free but you need to be a subscriber.

Another election app you shouldn't miss is the NBC politics app. It's free and available for iPhone and Android and provides users with real-time access to the latest news and analysis from MSNBC and NBC news.
