Apple (APPL) iPhone 6 rumored to be released in August

Historically, Apple has released its next-generation phones each September, but a new report hints that the world may get the iPhone 6 a bit earlier this year.

According to Mashable , citing a report in Taiwan's Economic Daily News, the iPhone is expected to be unveiled in August.

Despite a leaked document earlier this year that contained what is believed to be a schematic of the iPhone 6 and suggested the phone could be larger, the new report says only the 4.7-inch iPhone will come out in August, with Apple releasing a larger 5.5 or 5.6-inch model in September.

The larger handsets, called "phablets," were pioneered by Samsung in 2011 with the release of the original 5.3-inch Galaxy Note.
