PAHOKEE, Fla. - The killing of a 57-year-old Pahokee woman is being investigated as a homicide by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
The scene happened feet away from the home of a woman, Deborah Jessie, who went missing on Sunday.
Investigators would not specify if the two incidents were connected.
Investigators said they responded to a home on the 700 block of Eisenhower Driver to preform a welfare check when they found Crystal Anderson dead Monday night.
"This is Pahokee. This is a small community. Everybody knows everybody and everybody is pretty close. That old lady is one of the nicest old ladies I've seen around," said Kenny Murphy, who lived near and knew Anderson.
Murphy said Anderson was nice, quiet and kept to herself. He also said Anderson was close with missing woman Deborah Jessie. Murphy said Anderson was the godmother of her child.
"She would keep kids, wash their clothes. She would do anything she could for these children. A church going lady," said Murphy.
According to this restraining order filed by Jessie, she listed the home of the homicide as a location she wanted her boyfriend to stay away from pending approval of the order. Jessie listed Anderson as her babysitter.
"Seen the little girl drop her kid off to this address you're talking about here. Seemed like a really nice little girl and the lady, I've seen her in the backyard playing with the kids," said Rodney Fountain.
Neighbors and family say they saw both Jessie and Anderson on Sunday and have not been them since.
"I don't know why anybody would want to kill her. I can't tell you how many times I've never even seen that lady even curse," said Murphy.
Investigators would not reveal how Anderson died.
Anyone with information regarding the homicide should call Crime Stoppers at 1.800.458.TIPS.
