Geoffrey Brown: Belle Glade teen going to All Star Camp in New Jersey

BELLE GLADE, Fla. - Seventeen-year-old Geoffrey Brown never knew he liked basketball until two years ago. Geoffrey started playing for Glades Central High School. He said, "I was always on the court, just me. I wasn't really meaning to play basketball but now I'll be at the court all day and night."

Geoffrey and his teammates were invited to go to a Belle Glade summer camp led by former NBA all-stars. It's a prestigious camp. He hesitated going, but that changed. "I guess it was just God's plan."

Geoffrey says his love for basketball has gotten him some recognition. His coach Kenneth Torrence, who is also a Sheriff's Deputy, is not surprised. "We had about 200 kids attend the camp. Geoffrey was the one that they recognized and came to me and said coach your kid Geoffrey he is a great ball player. We would like to invite him to an all star camp."

Geoffrey will be able to afford to fly to New Jersey for the camp, thanks to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps underprivileged children in the county. Rick Seymour with the organization said,  "We are paying for the travel and the expenses for Geoffrey and Coach T to attend the camp and it's a 15 hundred dollar grant."

The high school senior leaves for camp on Sunday. He's hoping this all-star camp will lead to continued success both on and off the court. "I would be the first to go to college out of my family."
