PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A former U.S. Army captain shot and killed her husband Wednesday night in St. Lucie County, police said.
Around 10:30 p.m., Port St. Lucie police went to 5760 NW Cleburn Dr. for reports of a shooting.
Once on scene officers spoke with Valerie Ann Lowe, 53, who told officers that she had just shot her husband, identified as 59-year-old Laurence Edward Daly.
Lowe told police she was involved in a domestic argument with her husband when she shot him with a .38 Caliber Smith and Wesson revolver.
Police located Daly lying on the master bedroom floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
St. Lucie County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported Daly to Lawnwood Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead.
The couple had been married less than a year and police had been to the house on two previous occasions on domestic calls.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
"This is a situation where we know who the shooter is and we know the victim. The public at large is not in any jeopardy, just want to sort out the details of the shooting and make a decision to present to the state," said Port Saint Lucie Police Department Master Sergeant Frank Sabol.
At the present time, Lowe has not been charged and is not in custody.
