St. Lucie County's Public Safety and Communications Department will conduct a massive multiagency emergency response training exercise Wednesday at Tradition Field.
The drill is scheduled to begin about 9 a.m. Wednesday and end in the afternoon.
Residents in the immediate area can expect to hear simulated gunfire, explosions and lots of sirens and helicopters throughout most of the morning.
The simulated emergency event will involve student actors, law enforcement officers and first responders from the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, Port St. Lucie Police, Fort Pierce Police, St. Lucie County Fire District, the St. Lucie County Health Department, St. Lucie Medical Center, Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, Martin Health System, Safer St. Lucie, American Red Cross, Medical Reserve Corps and Critical Infrastructure Support Group. Local high school drama students will be participating as actors during the drill.
In addition to the exercises at Tradition Field, simulated events will be performed at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute, which may result in road closures and traffic being rerouted in and around the hospital.
