PORT ST. LUCIE — A 13-year-old boy was arrested after Port St. Lucie police say he stole an iPhone 5 in the basketball court area of the Minsky Gym, police stated Thursday and according to reports.
The teen was arrested Jan. 18 on a felony grand theft charge in connection with the incident that happened a day earlier.
Police reviewed surveillance footage, and determined the teen took the phone, which was in a gray/white OtterBox protective cover, from the gym and into a restroom. The items were valued at about $550.
The teen told police he took the phone and discarded the protective cover in the restroom garbage. A gray/white OtterBox protective cover turned up in a Dumpster.
The teen led police to his grandmother's home, where the phone was hidden in a trash can.
