PORT St. LUCIE, Fla. – An English bulldog has made what police are calling a miraculous recovery.
Investigators say last month Scrappy was beaten with a sawed-off shotgun after he defecated on the floor of his owner's apartment in Port St. Lucie.
Officers said they found the "barely conscious, dazed and unresponsive" animal from the residence and transported it to Animal Kindness Hospital for treatment.
Monday morning Port St. Lucie Animal Control picked up Scrappy from the hospital and transferred him to the Humane Society of St. Lucie County.
Kyle Romain Hall, the man accused of beating Scrappy, faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a short barreled shotgun, and animal cruelty.
Police say they wish Scrappy well in the next chapter of his hopefully long life.
