Robert James Smith: Police track down burglary suspect hiding in the woods

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Police K-9 tracked down a burglary suspect who was found hiding in the woods in the 2100 block of S.W. Susset Lane in Port St. Lucie Thursday.

According to a police report, officers responded to a 911 call from a man who heard glass breaking at his neighbor's house in the 1050 block of S.W. John MacCormack Terrace around 9:30 p.m.

The caller told officers that he saw a man, later identified as Robert James Smith, walking around the home where the broken glass was. When officers arrived, they say they saw Smith run from the back of the house, ignoring officer's commands to stop.

Police say they chased Smith to the 900 block of S.W. Whittier Terrace but Smith got away on a bike.

A police K-9 was able to track down Smith who was found hiding in the woods nearby.

He arrested on charges of residential burglary and transported to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.
