Port St. Lucie police warn residents of FPL 'Greendot Money Card' scam

Port St. Lucie police want you to be suspicious if you receive a call asking you to purchase a "Greendot Money Pack.”

A few days ago police say an elderly woman said she was called by a person who claimed to represent Florida Power and Light.

The woman said the caller told her she was behind on payments and her electricity would be turned off if she didn’t pay up.

She was then told to go to Walgreens or CVS and buy a Greendot Money Pack.

The victim eventually ended up losing $600.

Police say legitimate businesses and government agencies will not ask for payments through Greendot cards.

You should call police and make a report if you think someone is trying to take advantage of you.
