Port St. Lucie police arrested a man Monday night and charged him with impersonating an undercover officer.

At 8:40 p.m., Port St. Lucie Police went to the 900 block of SW Munjack Circle to investigate a suspicious incident.

Police at the scene learned a victim was being followed by a suspect, later identified as Douglas Paul Andrews, 41, of Port St. Lucie.

Officers followed Andrews as he drove with a passenger from the area of NW Concord and NW Floresta Drive.

Andrews continued following the victim across the city to the gated community of Lake Charles, located in St. Lucie West, where the victim lives.

After the victim passed through the secured gates at the community, police said Andrews told a guard at the gate that he was an undercover officer, and he was following the victim who entered the community.

Andrews told the guard that she did not want to prevent him from conducting his investigation.

Officers said the guard let Andrews through the gate and he continued to follow the victim to his house on Munjack Circle.

Once on scene, police said they saw Andrews’ car, a blue 2016 Toyota Camry that has white lights that line the top and bottom of the front windshield.

The vehicle also has lights in the grill of his car, a dash cam in the front windshield, a Motorola hand held radio on the passenger floor board, and a cellphone that was scanning 911 dispatch radio transmissions.

Police said Andrews refused to cooperate with officers when they asked him why he was following the victim and why he had led lights in his car.  Andrews was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.

He’s charged him with impersonating a law enforcement officer, trespassing, and resisting an officer without violence after he followed a resident into a gated community in St. Lucie West.
