Port St. Lucie man badly injured after being hit by car while mowing his lawn

A Port St. Lucie man was flown to a local trauma center with serious injuries after he was hit by a vehicle while mowing his lawn.

According to Port St. Lucie police, 66-year-old Philip Ritchie Menard was cutting his front lawn, located in the 1900 block of Southeast Berkshire Boulevard, when he walked into the roadway with his lawnmower and collided with a 2011 Honda CRV driven by 71-year-old Lauretta Findlay.

Menard suffered head trauma and broken bones.

Due to the seriousness of his injuries, Menard was flown by helicopter to an area hospital for treatment. Police say Findlay was shaken up but uninjured in the crash.

Traffic investigators with the Port St. Lucie police are still gathering details. The investigation remains active.
