Hunter Henry, 16, is on life support after he was hit while riding his bike, police say

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - 16 year old Hunter Henry was on life support Tuesday night after he was hit on his bicycle according to Port St. Lucie Police.

Police say Henry was biking to school with his girlfriend when 82 year old Robert Swenson hit the boy with his Mustang on Tiffany Avenue.

"He just came out of nowhere into my headlights and all the sudden…thump…and the windshield was broken. I slammed on the brakes," Swenson said.

Swenson says he stopped immediately and neighbors called 911.

Friends were back at the scene Tuesday night leaving flowers and balloons.

"He was deciding to do the Army, Air Force, or Marines. I think he was going toward the Marines. He was a great kid," Margaret Leonard said.

Leonard says she was like a second mom to the teen, even taking him in for a month. Her son went to Port St. Lucie High School with Henry.

"It's hard to see a friend gone…a life taken short," Leonard said.

Swenson says he can't stop thinking of the boy.

"I feel so sorry for him. I wonder how his poor folks feel," Swenson said.

Police say they don't have plans at this point to press criminal charges.
