PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Hundreds of people made their way into the Port St. Lucie Civic Center Saturday for the Philippine-American sporting festival.
Volleyball and basketball players on teams from Orlando to Miami came to the civic center for the games.
The games are one of three different events going on at the civic center Saturday.
A reggae festival and a nursing training also were taking place at the civic center.
Philippine American games organizer, Daisy McGinnis said she's happy to be having the games and raising money for an organization that raises money for female victims of abuse.
Mayor JoAnn Faiella emceed the opening of the event.
She was pleasantly surprised how many people came to the games from all over.
Faiella also said this event adds to the growth in events that are taking place at the civic center.
She said it really is boosting the economy by having so many tourists come into the area.
She added that the civic center has been booked solid almost every weekend this summer, which is better than year's past.
The center was built about five years ago and has slowly started to host more events.
