Passenger killed in accident on I-95 in Port St. Lucie

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — A 17-year-old Port St. Lucie female died Wednesday after a vehicle crash on Interstate 95, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky.

Kayli Fagundes was a passenger in a 2003 Acura RSX traveling southbound on I-95 about two miles north of the St. Lucie West Boulevard exit just before 10:30 a.m. when the driver, Arianna Hathcox, also a 17-year-old Port St. Lucie resident, lost control and hit a tree with the right side of the vehicle, Wysocky said.

Both girls, who were wearing their seat belts, were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce where Fagundes was pronounced dead, Wysocky said. Hathcox sustained minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation late Wednesday.

The Acura may have been cut off by a gold or tan vehicle with a female driver who continued southbound on I-95, Wysocky said. Anyone who witnessed this crash or has any information should call FHP at 954-837-4012.
