Brandon Lamar Hawkins arrested after 69-year-old man killed, child, 7, shot in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Police in Port St. Lucie have just provided an update on last night's fatal shooting that left a 69-year-old man dead and a 7-year-old in critical condition.

Police say 24 year-old Brandon Hawkins showed no remorse to investigators for killing that elderly man who he felt had disrespected him.

The chief said Hawkins went to the home on S.W. Kentwood last night with the intent of settling a score with the brother of his girlfriend.

He was not there and Hawkins and his girlfriend, Jamie Young, began arguing about their relationship status.

Hawkins fired at Young as she ran from the home.

A bullet struck her 7-year-old son Emmanuel in the abdomen, who police say referred to Hawkins as "Daddy".

Hawkins then went to an RV at the back of the property and got into an argument with the 69-year-old Levi Williams, the boyfriend of Young's mother, shooting him in the head at least once.

Police found Hawkins at another girlfriend's home in Tradition overnight.

Once in custody, he showed little remorse.

"The only thing he had remorse for is the shooting of the 7-year-old. In reference to Mr. Williams and everything else he did he felt this was righteous... he felt justified," said Port St. Lucie Lt. Scott Beck.

Hawkins faces 4 felony counts including 1 count first degree murder, 2 attempted first degree murder.

The boy, Emmanuel Morgan Jr., was airlifted to St. Mary’s Trauma Center in West Palm Beach where he is in critical condition.
