Loud music leads to baseball bat attack in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE — A 42-year-old man faces an aggravated battery charge following an apparent confrontation stemming from loud music, according to an arrest affidavit released Thursday.

Stephen D. Kurtycz, of the 1000 block of Southwest Kant Avenue, about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday heard music playing loudly from a neighbor's home, the affidavit states.

"Can you turn that (expletive expletive) down?" Kurtycz is quoted as saying.

A verbal altercation broke out between Kurtycz, the homeowner and her visitors, and at one point Kurtycz went to his garage and got a wooden baseball bat. The homeowner reportedly was hit in the head "more than once hard enough to cause the bat to splinter."

Kurtycz is accused of hitting one of the visitors with his fist on the eye. That visitor grabbed the bat and hit Kurtycz on the face.

Kurtycz fell and went back to his home. He was arrested by Port St. Lucie police.

The homeowner who was hit in the head declined to press charges.
