Kyle Romain Hall: Man accused of beating Scrappy the dog denied custody at court hearing

PORT ST. LUCIE - A man accused of beating a one-year-old English bulldog puppy named Scrappy with a sawed-off shotgun was denied custody of the dog at a court hearing Tuesday.

According to Port St. Lucie Police PIO Sgt. Frank Sabol, Kyle Romain Hall was denied custody of Scrappy at the 1:30p.m. case hearing. Hall is also not allowed to be in possession of any animals in St. Lucie County.

The court hearing stemmed from an incident earlier this month where Hall was taken into police custody after, investigators say, he badly beat and nearly drowned the puppy during a domestic dispute. Police say Hall's girlfriend yelled for him to stop beating the dog but Hall then grabbed a knife and threatened her.

Scrappy sustained major bruising and lacerations but was able to recover with veterinarians with Kindness Animal Hospital in Port St. Lucie.

Scrappy will be placed in the custody of the city of Port St. Lucie. He will eventually be placed up for adoption.
