An important event was held Saturday to get young people to "know their heart".

The Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County partnered with the "Jessica Clinton MVP Foundation" to prevent sudden cardiac arrest.

Kids and teens had the opportunity to get a free heart screening.

In the past 5 years, more than 1,100 kids have been screened, and 4 percent of those checked had some type of cardiac abnormality.

The foundation is named after a St. Lucie County cheerleader who died following practice back in 2003.

It was later discovered she had an undiagnosed heart condition.
