PORT ST. LUCIE — A short-haired man who handcuffed and helped in shaving the head of a 15-year-old neighbor as a prank ended up being arrested on charges of false imprisonment and child abuse.
Earlier in the day, the boy played with the man's son and helped set up the family's Christmas tree before finally having pizza at the home in the 800 block of Southeast Starflower Avenue, according to the arrest report.
Then around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the 275-pound father, Jimmy Bendfeldt, 46, allegedly handcuffed the youth, walked him into the garage and the man held him in a chair as his son saved the youth's head.
Angered by what happened, the teenager went home and texted his mother, who called police.
Police quoted the father as saying he and his son, on the spur of the moment, decided to do the head shaving as a prank. The 15-year-old "did not say no and put his hands in front of his body to be handcuffed," the report states. The youth "never said no or asked to stop or he would have."
Bendfeldt appeared remorseful and "did not immediately realize he had done anything wrong," the report said.
His son backed up his story and that "they were just joking," police said.
The father, on Thursday, was in the St. Lucie County Jail under a $7,500 bail on two felony charges.
