PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Police say right now there are no signs of foul play after a body was found in a retention pond Saturday evening.
The body of Jakiya Gordon, 24, was found in a pond at the Sanctuary Apartment complex near the 5400 block of NW Rabbit Run Way.
Police say his mother reported him missing earlier in the week when she hadn't heard from him since Monday.
Police say a passerby spotted his body in the pond and called police around 5:30 p.m.
He was last seen in the area of the complex, and was likely temporarily living with a friend in the complex.
"It's really sad to know somebody was found dead in this neighborhood. It's really shocking because you would never think you would find somebody dead in this neighborhood. It's a really nice place so to hear about something so sad and so disturbing is like really crazy," said resident Luis Acosta.
Police say an autopsy is pending, but there were no signs of injuries.
Anyone with any information about the case is asked to call the Port St. Lucie Police Department at 772-871-5001 or the Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273 TIPS
