Jahwann McIntyre, a Martin County firefighter burned on the job, returns home

After months in a Miami burn center, McIntyre back

PORT ST. LUCIE, STUART, Fla. - Martin County firefighter Jahwann McIntyre has been waiting for what seems a long time to see his "brothers" again.

"I wanted to see everyone, and I'm so glad I got to," said McIntyre.

Stopping by where his career began, at the Martin County Fire Rescue Station 23, felt nerve-racking for him.

"It felt like my first day all over again," he said. "I was just nervous, and just so happy."

Fellow firefighter Scott Cannon was with him in the December house fire that left Jahwann with burns over 40% of his body.

"Been down to visit him in the hospital a few times," explained Cannon. "He looks 100% better now. He has his personality back, he's smiling. It's great to see."

Jahwann has more rehabilitation to do before he can regain full range of motion, but his doctors are optimistic.

So far, his road to recovery has taken months. Jahwann's parents, Albert and Ann, have been with him all along.
Ann said this homecoming is right on time.

"I'm so proud of him, and just so happy to have him back home," said Ann. "This is the best Mother's Day ever."
