PORT ST. LUCIE — All lanes are open now on northbound Interstate 95 near Becker Road after a Florida Highway Patrol car caught fire Friday and ammunition was ignited by the heat.
Traffic is still moving slowly.
No one was hurt, Fire District spokeswoman Catherine Chaney said.
Fire District crews were called at 10:53 a.m. to the incident on northbound I-95 near mile marker 116, about 2 miles south of Gatlin Boulevard, Chaney said.
The FHP trooper was in the car on speed enforcement duty, when the grassy area on which the car was idling caught fire, officials said.
She got out of the car before ammunition was ignited. The car was completely destroyed, Chaney said.
Chaney said ammunition is in the vehicle was ignited by the heat.
