Hiring: Aegis Global Communications Group in Port St. Lucie hosting all-day job fair Saturday

Hopes to hire 800 permanent and temporary workers

PORT ST. LUCIE — Aegis Global Communications Group's annual hiring spree is set for Saturday when the company hopes to hire 800 permanent and temporary workers for its Port St. Lucie branch.

The company plans to host an all-day job fair Saturday at its Port St. Lucie center to hire customer service and sales representatives. Hires will start from $9 to $12 per hour with the potential to make more in performance bonuses. Some bonuses are based on sales, while others are based on customer service.

Hires also will be eligible for health insurance as well as 401(K) benefits.

"For us, it's our favorite time of year," said Brian Biele, the company's manager of operations. "Ultimately, we get to extend and grow our Aegis family, which is something we look forward to every year."

Most of those hired will work for health care clients, though others will represent financial companies, Biele said. Throughout the world, Aegis has 55 locations in 13 countries and more than 55,000 employees.

"We need people that are willing to work in a somewhat high-stress environment," Biele said.

Though the company does not release its client list, Aegis typically caters to clients with cyclical needs. More calls typically come in the fall than in the spring. In January, Aegis laid off 76 temporary workers, and the company announced another 32 layoffs in April.

"If the call volume goes down, we can't afford to keep all the agents employed anymore," Biele said.

Biele said the company keeps contact numbers for laid off employees and calls them first so long as they are eligible to return. Biele said he does not know how many of the hires will be permanent versus temporary.

"Most people come in as temporary from management down," Biele said. "And the reason we don't know is because it's always based on our performance on how many permanent positions that the client offers us."

The company needs about four weeks to train most employees, he said.

"With it being for the health care, it is the annual enrollment period so for that reason alone, we need to ra mp up pretty quickly," Biele said.
