PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A 21-year-old Port St. Lucie man was killed in a two-car crash Thursday night, according to police.
The wreck occurred around 10:27 p.m. at the intersection of SW Del Rio Boulevard and SW California Boulevard.
Police said Gaetan M. Narcisse, 21, of Port St. Lucie, was driving a 2002 Silver Suzuki SUV traveling east on SW Del Rio Boulevard.
Investigators said Narcisse stopped at the stop sign posted at SW California and began to make a left turn to head north onto SW California Boulevard.
At the same time Narcisse was making his turn, Mathew J. Martinez, 25, of Dothan, Ala., was driving a 1996 Silver Jeep Grand Cherokee west on SW Del Rio Boulevard, approaching SW California Boulevard.
Witnesses at the scene said Martinez was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the stop sign, causing Martinez’s car to T-Bone the right side of Narcisse’s car.
St. Lucie County Fire Rescue responded and pronounced Narcisse dead at the scene. Martinez was taken to an area hospital.
Friday afternoon police arrested Martinez for traffic homicide DUI manslaughter.
They say Martinez had a blood alcohol level of .162, which is twice the legal limit.
He remains hospitalized but when he is released he will be taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.
