PORT ST. LUCIE -- Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in the area of Southwest Bayshore Boulevard and Southwest Thornhill Drive, according to Master Sgt. Frank Sabol, Port St. Lucie Police Department public information officer.
The intersection at Southwest Bayshore Boulevard and Southwest Thornhill Drive has been closed and traffic is being re-routed while emergency personnel are at the scene.
Westbound traffic on Southwest Thornhill Drive is being diverted north onto Bayshore Boulevard.
Master Sgt. Sabol said that a Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling southbound on Bayshore Boulevard approaching Thornhill Drive.
At the same time a Chrysler Pacifica was traveling northbound on Bayshore Boulevard and attempted to make a left turn to travel westbound on Thornhill Drive.
The Pacifica collided with the rear quarter of the PT cruise, causing it to spin out of control and collide with a pole.
Paramedics pronounced the husband and wife in the front seats of that car dead at the scene. Police identified them as Mary and John Lasecki of Port St. Lucie.
Their adult son in the rear seat, also named John, had to be cut free from the vehicle. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
Police say the driver of the 2004 Pacifica, Bart Cincotta of Port St. Lucie, had minor injuries.
The Port St. Lucie police department is asking that if anyone has information regarding this accident to call 772-871-5001.
