Elderly woman robbed at gunpoint at a Port St. Lucie Walmart

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Port St. Lucie police are looking for two people who robbed an elderly woman at gunpoint. It happened at the Walmart on NW Saint Lucie West Boulevard at 5:40 p.m., according to Master Sgt. Frank Sabol, spokesman for the police department.

Surveillance video shows the 67-year-old woman put away her shopping cart and then got inside her car. That's when the suspect's black car stopped behind the victim's car, which was in a parking space near the front of the store. The female suspect got out on the passenger side and walked up to the victim's car.

Police say the suspect pointed a gun at the victim and told her to give up the purse or she would be killed. Video shows the female suspect running back to the black car with the purse. The male driver then speeds off.  The car was last seen heading toward Interstate 95.

"t's extremely brazen," Sabol said. "It's the middle of the afternoon. There's a lot of people getting off work, coming and shopping."

Witnesses told police the suspect's car had Illinois license plates with a partial tag of CF 253.

"We're concerned that they're out there," Sabol said.

The crime scared Walmart shoppers.

"Somebody can't even shop without getting robbed you know," says customer Otis Tukes.

Tukes was surprised to hear about the crime. He said he's going to make sure he and his wife go shopping together in the future so she's not alone.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Port St. Lucie Police Department at (772) 871-5001 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273 TIPS.
