Driver dies after hitting tree on Tradition Parkway in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE — A single-car crash on Southwest Tradition Parkway claimed the life of a 44-year-old seasonal visitor about 3:11 a.m. Wednesday, according to the St. Lucie County Fire District.

Motorist Kevin Mason, of Canada and Port St. Lucie, hit a tree while going into a roundabout at the parkway and Community Boulevard on the west side of Interstate 95. He was declared dead at the scene.

Mason, of the 2800 block of Southwest Eunice Street, Port St. Lucie, was driving a 2002 Toyota minivan west on the parkway when he didn’t follow the road, causing his vehicle to become airborne and hit a palm tree.

The vehicle rolled over and he was partially thrown out, according to a police report. Police continue looking into the case. According to investigators, he was not wearing a seat belt and it is suspected that alcohol may have contributed to the accident.
