ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. - It looks like it will be two to four weeks before a stretch of Indian River Drive in St. Lucie County is reopened.
The barricades are up around the spot where the road washed into the Intracoastal Waterway just south of Midway Road.
Right now the road is closed to all but local traffic between Midway and the Martin County line.
For residents like Tom Hoffman, who live just south of the washout, it's added miles to his daily commute. "It's about 12-and-a-half miles if I have to go north out of the way. I was here about 15 minutes and I heard this 'whoomp' and heard the road cave in," he said.
The county says it will be working six days a week to shore up five patches of roadway that were compromised during the storm.
