TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Governor Rick Scott will attend the funeral service for Sergeant Gary Morales Monday in Fort Pierce, according to an email memorandum he sent to county officials Sunday afternoon.
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of St. Lucie County Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant Gary Morales," the governor said in the memorandum.
Morales was shot dead Thursday morning while making a routine traffic stop in the 3200 block of Naylor Terrace, south of Fort Pierce. He was 35.
The ceremony will be held at Westside Baptist Church, 3361 S. Jenkins Road in Fort Pierce. Public viewing begins at 10am and the service at 12 noon.
A graveside service will take place immediately following at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 2001 SW Murphy Road in Palm City.
Scott ordered the national and state flags to be flown at half-staff on Monday at St. Lucie County's Courthouse, Port St. Lucie City Hall and the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office in Fort Pierce.
