Treasure Coast Food Bank scrambles to feed the needy for Thanksgiving

The need to feed the hungry is strong this upcoming holiday season.
At the Treasure Coast Food Bank in Fort Pierce, work is underway to start distributing turkeys to church groups and other community organizations.
Last year the food bank handed out 5-thousand birds, but so far this year, the group has only been able to collect half that amount.
"People right now don't have the money to pay for the luxury of a Thanksgiving meal so we're scrambling as hard as we can to provide for meals for as many people as we can," said Judy Cruz with the Treasure Coast Food Bank.
The food bank also plans to hand out 8-thousand pre-packaged meals on Thanksgiving Day from its warehouse.
If you'd like to help out by donating a turkey, or making a financial donation, you can call the food bank at 772-489-3034 or go to their
