FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Two Indian River County men arrested Wednesday night are accused of buying cocaine from an undercover detective in Fort Pierce.
Detectives from the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit learned of two men who wanted to buy multiple kilograms of cocaine powder. An undercover detective began conversations with them to broker a deal. Eventually, a price was agreed upon to purchase 3 kilos of cocaine and a meeting was set up to deliver the drugs.
According to Sheriff Ken Mascara, the meeting took place on Fisherman's Wharf in Fort Pierce on Wednesday night. The undercover detective met with 37-year-old Jay Arthur Green Jr. of Sebastian and 49-year-old Mark Edward Bellamy of Vero Beach at the location where Green and Bellamy agreed to purchase 3 kilograms of cocaine for $30,000 per kilo.
As soon as the money and drugs were exchanged, an arrest team moved in and took the pair into custody.
Mascara said $98,860 in cash was seized during the transaction. Both defendants were charged with trafficking in cocaine over 400 grams and conspiracy to traffic cocaine. They are being held in the St. Lucie County Jail.
Bellamy has previous arrests for marijuana and cocaine; his bond was set at $1,075,000. Green has no previous drug charges and bond was set at $200,000.
