FT. PIERCE, Fla. - A rape suspect wanted by the Fort Pierce Police is now in custody.
Police say that their officers along with the US Marshall Regional Fugitive Task Force were able to arrest Gerald L. Spears after receiving tips about his location.
Police say that Spears is a suspect in a violent sexual assault that occurred inside the cemetery at Riverview Memorial Park.
Early Monday morning just before 1 a.m. police were called to 907 Avenue J.
Officers found a woman who was standing in the road wearing torn clothing and crying.
The alleged victim told police that shortly after leaving her friend's residence with Spears, whom she had just met, he then produced a knife and held it to her back.
Police say the woman said she was told to keep walking or Spears said he would cut her.
Investigators say that when the alleged victim and Spears were inside the cemetery, she reported that he held a knife to her throat and sexually assaulted her.
