Five Cubans in custody after coming ashore in Fort Pierce, five others unaccounted for

FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Five people are in custody this morning in Fort Pierce after after authorities received reports of undocumented migrants coming ashore, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the five people identified themselves as Cuban, and five others are unaccounted for.

Authorities were alerted at 5:38 a.m. and responded to 2400 South Ocean Drive, about one mile south of the Fort Pierce Inlet.

The Coast Guard also reports an 18-foot boat is adrift.

The U.S. Coast Guard is handling this case, along with the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office and Border Patrol.
