A man is accused of running over a toddler in Fort Pierce.

Detectives arrested 43-year-old Larry Hamilton on Wednesday night. He's charged with DUI manslaughter in the death of 1-year-old Azaria Morris in September.

Detectives held off charging Hamilton pending toxicology reports. Results show he had a blood alcohol level of 0.159, which is nearly twice the legal limit.

According to the arrest affidavit, he told police he was at a barbecue and confessed, "Yes, I had a few drinks."

Today, 1-year-old Azaria Morris' father wears a sweatshirt of his little girl.

"She was the baby girl," said Tiplin Morris.

Her nickname is Ladybug. She was the youngest in her family.

Police say the 1-year-old was hit and killed while playing just feet from her home along Avenue M near 29th Street on September 19.

Police say Hamilton says he was "driving on the opposite side of the roadway against traffic because the two vehicles in front of me were driving too slow."

He told officers "he tried to push the breaks but couldn't stop in time before colliding with the baby's body in the roadway."

Neighbors remember the little girl as smiling and full of life. Tonight, her family is missing their ladybug.

One neighbor says the day little Azaria died she said the word "dog" for the first time. It's memories like that one that neighbors are remembering.

Hamilton is held on $350,000 bail.
