Caregiver charged after two children wander away from Fort Pierce home

Two Fort Pierce boys, the oldest age 4, walked away from the backyard of a home after the woman who was watching them allegedly fell asleep.

The children spent an hour on their own Monday before a woman spotted them outside a liquor store in the 2100 block of Okeechobee Road and called Fort Pierce police, according to an arrest affidavit.

During that hour, they had crossed a busy intersection near the store, the affidavit said.

Dilia Noami, 31, who lives in the 1700 block of Havana Avenue, was charged with child neglect, the affidavit said. She was released from the St. Lucie County Jail on Monday after posting a $3,750 bond.

The children were released to the 4-year-old boy’s mother when Noami was arrested, the affidavit said.

Police notified the Florida Department of Children and Families.
