FORT PIERCE, Fla. - 15-year-old Demetrius Osborne faces a first degree murder charge and two other counts in connection with the Saturday shooting death of 17-year-old Davontae Timmahl Dukes.
Monday, during a juvenile hearing, a judge ordered Osborne to be held for the next 21 days in juvenile detention.
During that time there's a good chance the State Attorney's Office will then charge him as an adult. If and when that happens, Osborne will make another first appearance before a judge, this time in adult court.
A memorial has been set up where Dukes collapsed.
Dukes and his brother were riding their bikes in the area of North 35th Street and Avenue M north of Fort Pierce when the shooting occurred.
Dukes's younger brother was not hit, but Devontae was shot in the stomach.
Law enforcement officers returned to the area of the crime scene Monday afternoon. Some deputies were walking along the edge of the grass not far from where Dukes was found.
Devontae Dukes's mother was too distraught to talk and no one else from the family offered a comment Monday.
