A man in his 50s has died after being struck by an SUV while riding his bicycle in Fort Pierce Thursday morning.
The SUV involved in the crash did not stop.
According to St. Lucie Fire Rescue, the man was riding his bike on 25th Street near Orange Avenue around 10:10 a.m. when he was hit.
Police later identified him as 55-year-old Clifford Schwartz. They say he was eastbound on Orange Avenue when he entered the crosswalk at 25th Street.
A large SUV, possibly a Chrysler, was southbound when it struck Schwartz, police say.
He was transported to a hospital where he later died.
Police describe the suspect vehicle as gray or tan colored with 22 inch chrome rims and tinted windows.
