The southernmost section of Indian River Drive, from Walton Road to the Martin County line, has been closed due to erosion, according to a St. Lucie County government spokesperson.
The erosion was caused by heavy rains this week and barricades have been erected at each end of the closed road.
Residents will be allowed to get to their homes but drivers are urged to avoid the area.
The county says it is working with Ranger Construction to shore up two areas that have been severely impacted.
The county hopes to reopen the road by early next week.
