U.S. Congressman Patrick Murphy took to the skies Wednesday morning to get an aerial view of Treasure Coast waterways.
He took a helicopter tour to look at the Indian River Lagoon and the St. Lucie Estuary.
The congressman says finding a solution to the toxins building in the lagoon is a top priority. He says if the governor declares a state of emergency, it could be a step in the right direction.
"If the governor decides to do it, I think that will be interesting. What comes out of that, I'm not sure of the technicalities of what happens there, but certainly we've reached a point with toxic water that this is a serious problem, so we need all hands on deck, we've got to solve this problem."
The congressman says he hopes to work with other constituents on ideas that would help come up with a solution.
