A special memorial is two years old. It's in memory of 16-year old Christian Medina who lost his life in a car crash.  And for two years, Christian's Tree of Life has helped to bring life to others by encouraging organ donation.

Christian said he would be an organ donor when he got his driver's license. Since his death, St. Lucie County has seen increase in people who volunteer to be organ donors just like Christian did.

Christian's Tree of Life is displayed on the wall of the driver's license office in Fort Pierce. The past two years, the office has seen a boost in the number of drivers who say yes to organ donation when they get their driver license. The numbers have changed from 47% two years ago to 54%.

Many of them putting their names on the Tree of Life.

Christian's mother, Madeline Medina says it keeps his memory alive. "I think of him every day like everywhere that I go there is a memory and because he has done so much. In 16 years he's done more than most kids will do."

Jayne Johnson with the Saint Lucie Tax Collector's Office said, "The tree is growing, we would love maybe to spread it to another part of our office so that it keeps growing, we would love for it to fill our lobby."

In addition to having the Christian's Tree of Life, scholarships have been started in his name.
