A woman driving her 2011 red Cadillac south on Indian River Drive ended up in the Indian River Lagoon Monday morning, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office. The crash was first reported by Scripps Treasure Coast Reporter Laurie K. Blandford.
As Donna Buch of Fort Pierce moved from the southbound lane to the northbound lane to avoid water from a sprinkler a 1998 GMC pickup truck driven by Mark Shaber followed suit, the sheriff's office said.
When Buch attempted to return to her original lane she realized Shaber had already driven back into the southbound lane ahead of her and she crashed into the front of his pickup truck, the sheriff's office said.
The collision caused her to spin and the Cadillac went over a bank and into the water.
She was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Shaber was treated at the scene.
A deputy determined that Shaber was responsible for the crash but he was not cited, the sheriff's office said.
