St. Lucie County Sheriff's detectives said they solved a year-old murder case with the arrests of two men Monday night, according to Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
"Antonio Hogan, 24, of 3306 Avenue K, Fort Pierce, and his brother, Demetrius Hogan, 23, who was already at the St. Lucie County Jail, are both charged with the May 24, 2013, murder of Thomas James Alexander, 24, of Fort Pierce," Mascara said. "The Hogan brothers also are charged with several other crimes."
Mascara said the murder was gang-related. "It took more than a year to complete this investigation, which took a great deal of time and determination by our detectives," Mascara said.
"I and the members of the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office continue to extend a helping hand to the members of the northwest Fort Pierce community and neighboring unincorporated area to combat the violent acts committed by gang members and others," Mascara said.
"I have directed my Special Investigations Unit and Criminal Investigations Unit to devote all the time and resources necessary to identify gang members involved in shootings and other crimes. I feel confident with our detectives' hard work that we will be able to make additional arrests in other cases as our detectives continue to investigate. Every day we work closely with the Fort Pierce Police Department and other agencies to investigate these crimes.
