ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. - Nine migrant workers were injured Tuesday evening when the bus they were traveling in overturned in the 30,000 block of Okeechobee Road (State Road 70) near Fort Pierce, said St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
The small migrant labor bus ran off the road, hit the median and landed on its side, according to St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken J. Mascara.
He said the accident happened around 6:30 p.m. in rainy conditions.
Authorities initially reported that 11 people were injured, but later lowered that figure to nine.
The migrants suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, said Battalion Chief Nate Spera, spokesman for St. Lucie County Fire Rescue.
