SUBURBAN BOCA RATON, Fla. - A cyclist was hit and killed Thursday morning at southbound State Road 7 and westbound Sandalfoot Boulevard in suburban Boca Raton.
At 5:44 a.m., crews arrived and found a man riding a bicycle had been struck by a vehicle and was lying in the road, according to Cpt. Albert Borroto with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
The victim, identified as Andy Foss, 34, was traveling westbound crossing State Road 7 at the intersection of Sandalfoot Boulevard, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
A Nissan Frontier was traveling southbound on State Road 7 entering the intersection of Sandalfoot Boulevard under a green traffic signal.
As the vehicle entered the intersection, Foss ran into the path of the vehicle, causing a collision with the front of the vehicle, said PBSO.
Foss was knocked to the road and came to a rest in the intersection. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Frontier was not hurt.
As of Thursday afternoon, PBSO did not know where Foss lived.
The intersection was closed for almost three hours but reopened by 8:30 a.m.
